All of the (September shipping) DCnU series have been revealed. I’m looking forward to quite a few of them, but there are some disappointments for this lil’ black duck.
As much as I like most of what I’m seeing about the DCnU, it’s disheartening that, so far, there is no intel on Donna Troy, Wally West (I hope it’s Bart in TEEN TITANS and NOT Wally, regressed to a teen), Gar Logan, Garth/Aqualad and Raven (aka THE NEW TEEN TITANS). Grayson, Roy , Starfire and Cyborg are present, but the rest are MIA.
It irks me that some of MY characters are to date MIA. It’s possible they’ll show up in one of the new series as a supporting character or guest star. Other than Wally, I didn’t expect any of them to get their own series. But seeing the names of the other Titans (original, former and current) had me hoping we’d see the rest.
Obsidian, Damage and Jesse Quick being among the missing is also saddening.
Helena Bertinelli also seems to be among the MIA. I only recently warmed up to her character and I was hoping that she’d be around somewhere in the DCnU – i.e. a Bird of Prey. I doubt we’ll be getting any Earth-2 stories or series (at least not yet; maybe if there is a second wave of relaunches 6 or 9 months down the road), so that also leaves Helena Wayne out. So no Huntress at all?
The JSA – including Power Girl – being MIA is also highly disappointing. It’s possible that DCE is holding off on the launch of a JSA book until after the dust (and caterwauling and whining and kvetching, etc.) settles from the drama of the number ones. But it seems wrong to NOT have a current JSA book out there, somewhere.
Having also just found XOMBI, I’m disappointed that there is no #1 or #7 out there for September.
It’s also a heartbreaking let down that there is no SECRET SIX series. For its entire run – VILLAINS UNITED, SECRET SIX (mini-series) and the BIRDS OF PREY arc straight through to the ongoing – the stories were thrilling and brilliant and most of all entertaining. I’m hoping that there is a second wave of books DCE is keeping in a holding pattern in case some of the first 52 tank quickly.
I’m a diehard DC reader and I want to get each of the 52 first issues, but there are three series that I’m on the fence about picking up and at least one that I just have no interest in whatsoever.

These are the titles that I would like to get.

I guess for me the 2 most upsetting things are babs being batgirl again. I'm not against her being Batgirl, its just I was really enjoying the current run.
The other thing that makes me upset is the way Dick Grayson has been treated. I really like Dick as Batman and I know that he was not going to be Batman for ever but I feel like his story is getting cut short and his Nightwing book seems like a demotion. I know this is just speculation so I will have to wait and see how the Nightwing book goes.
The Swamp Thing book has me real excited and so does Morrisons Action, and Batwoman is going to knock it out of the park.
But I guess in the long run I have mixed emotions about the whole DCnU. I get very excited about some of this stuff and then I get sad because I will miss some of the stuff I have grown to love, but it just like your kids, sooner or later there going to grow up and change so I need to embrace the change and see some of this new stuff that I can grown on and start to love.
It's not just that the Titans are MIA, it's that their whole continuity is being erased and restarted with Young Justice. It's wrong. I'm amazed that Johns went along with that. I'd expect of DD, but not GJ.
ReplyDeleteIn an interview with Scott Snyder he was talking about how he is going to enplane who everybody wound up where they are in the DCnU, so that everything will still be in a somewhat continuity. I was worried about this. Not having read any of the Titans I don't know what is going on in that title. I would hope that they would treat it the same way as Snyder is saying he will.
ReplyDeleteI guess all and all I really don't know what to expect.
"Snyder said he was going to explain how everybody wound up where they are"
ReplyDeleteSorry about my bad grammar and spelling.
Chances are, like the DC devotee I am, I'll be getting all 52 books, but there are some that aren't grabbing me.
ReplyDeleteFor what it is worth, this my 2 cents for DC's 52 - http://www.comicbookandmoviereviews.com/2011/08/dc-and-naked-ladies.html
