DC Comics is
launching a 6 issue Knight and Squire mini-series,
written by Paul Cornell.
I posted this thread
– DC: Please
Publish a Knight and Squire Mini-Series!!! –
on the DCMB on 1.31.2010 asking DC to publish
a Knight and Squire mini-series. Well,
it looks like the powers that be at DC read my thread and have
granted my request.
That's right. I am
taking credit for DC realizing that there was a fan interest
in these characters getting a mini-series of their own.
I didn't read JLA:
CLASSIFIED when it was published; they were featured in the first
three issues of that book, which I read for the first time about 9 months
ago.
My first exposure to the characters
was in BATMAN 667, 668 and 669, the BLACK GLOVE arc,
which was set-up like an Agatha Christie novel and ranks among
my all-time favorite Batman stories.
They next appeared
in BATMAN AND ROBIN 7, 8 and 9, the BLACKEST
KNIGHT arc and my interest in them grew substantially.
Knight II and Squire
III, Cyril Sheldrake and Beryl Hutchinson,
respectively, are the UK's answer to Batman and Robin.
In the last few years, they've appeared in 9 issues (I did finally
read JLA: CLASSIFIED 1, 2 and 3 and the issues were quite
great and a lot of fun to read).
I may be alone in this,
but I am quite excited about this mini-series. There is an untapped
wealth of story potential with these two characters, not the least of which is
the UK version of Arkham Asylum, Basement 101,
introduced in BATMAN AND ROBIN #7.
Now that I am thinking about it, B&R 7, 8 and 9 can
actually serve as a "pilot" for this mini-series, since there is a
wholly original mythology introduced for the characters in the arc.

You're not alone, I've been hoping for this too!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait!!!
ReplyDeleteI've been criticizing Paul Cornell about his ACTION COMICS work, but I think he'll kick butt on this mini-series the way he did on CAPTAIN BRITAIN
