Since DETECTIVE COMICS 854, Batwoman has been the star.
(1) The art on the lead feature is some of most striking art I have ever seen anywhere. It just forces me to turn the lights all the way up and stare at it and study it and stare at it more.
(2) The character of Kate Kane is fascinating and I simply love her relationship with her father.
(a) This Kate is different from the Kate that appeared in 52 and at first I thought it was a retcon, but when I re-read 859, I saw the 52 Kate in the flashbacks with Renee . So, like I originally thought, Kate was radically affected by the events at the end of 52 with the Religion of Crime.
(b) For a while I was thinking that Kate's family came from old money and the reason we didn't see mansions during GO was because they were jumping from military base to military base. But now I don't think that. The Colonel's second wife is the one with the money, but this still leaves a break in the story as to why in 52 it seemed like the Kanes were second only to the Waynes as far as wealth in Gotham City.
(c) I can feel the love that the Colonel has for his daughter in their scenes together.
(d) The strength in character we saw from Kate when she was questioned in GO 2 was wonderful and spoke volumes about the character and the writer.
(3) I'm going on record stating that the Batman she ran into in 'TEC 854 was Dick Grayson.
(4) Alice is highly disturbing, but incredibly interesting. I know we haven't seen the last of her.
(a) The reveal that Alice is really Beth Kate's twin sister, was shocking to say the least. I know we haven't seen the last of her.
(5) I love the True Believers. I am hoping that they stick around as supporting characters.
(a) There is something awesome about Batwoman having a werewolf (and whatever the other hybrids are) working with and for her.
(6) I think it was the Religion of Crime that kidnapped and murdered Beth and her mother. I think Beth was raised from the dead by the cult.
(a) Their mother could also be out there somewhere.
(7) I haven’t read too many stories featuring Bette Kane, but I am hoping she becomes a sidekick to Batwoman.
(8) I didn’t notice it the first time I read the issue, but in ’TEC 858, we see the Kane twins in the winter, walking home. Kate is dressed in red and black snow clothes and Beth is dressed all in white. It’s such a great little touch.
(9) Instead of referring to Batwoman's costume as the "cape and cowl," which I feel should be reserved forBatman, I am going to, from this point forward, refer to her costume as the "red and the black." There, I said it!
